I am 42 years old and when I remember my childhood. I remember how my two older sister's and I grew up watching The Carol Burnett Show in the 1970's and early 1980's.We always looked forward to watching her because frankly the show was the funnest thing on Television.The Carol Burnett Show was and is still our favorite shows to watch.So when I had the opportunity to review the next installment in The Carol Burnett Show DVD collection is released today March 26,2013 I jumped at the chance to review the set.The new 6-disc collection, The Carol Burnett Show: This Time Together(Collector's Edition) , follows the fall 2012 DVD launch of the series which has sold over three million DVDs.
"It's truly thrilling to see the response from viewers both old and new, more than 45 years after the show debuted", said Burnett. "We hope viewers will enjoy these new DVD releases as much as we enjoyed doing the program itself".
The new The Carol Burnett Show DVD collection features 17 complete and unedited episodes handpicked by Burnett and includes over two hours of exclusive bonus features such as the "This Time Together a cast reunion featuring Carol, Vicki Lawrence, Tim Conway and Lyle Waggoner, guest appearances from A-listers like Dick Van Dyke, Sammy Davis Jr., Lily Tomlin, Hal Linden, Steve Lawrence, Peggy Lee, Bernadette Peters, The Pointer Sisters, Jerry Stiller and Anne Meara and more.
When The Carol Burnett show aired in September of 1967 on CBS, no one expected it to run eleven years. The show gave Carol Burnett, along with regulars Harvey Korman, Vicki Lawrence, Lyle Waggoner (who left in 1974), and Tim Conway (whose occasional guest appearances became permanent in 1975) an opportunity to fuse the best of live, vaudeville-style performance with the creative benefits of time and tape. Burnett's ensemble quickly bonded into a tight unit of professionals who looked, and acted, as if performing on The Carol Burnett Show was the best fun an entertainer could have. In reality, the meticulously-structured, musical-comedy program became one of the last, and one of the finest prime time variety shows to link the modern television age with Tin Pan Alley.Showcasing some of the most memorable and hilarious moments from CBS-TV's star-studded series, This Time Together contains many of the classic sketches and characters that will forever be a part of "The Golden Age of Motion Pictures and Television".
