My Review:
I watch a lot of movies at home, so I have a wide variety of movies to stream and also on DVD. I can say that "I Can Only Imagine" is one of the best films I have seen in a long time. The movie is a behind the scenes' story of the personal life of singer/songwriter Bart Millard (a role magnificently performed by J. Michael Finley-the songs in the movie are sung by Michael) and MercyMe's hit song I Can Only Imagine. This is an incredibly moving movie and I would suggest everyone to watch this movie.
Here is a little about the story without giving it all away. Bart was raised in a turbulent home with an alcoholic father (Dennis Quaid). Bart uses music as an escape from this abuse. Bart is abandoned by his mother but his grandmother played by Cloris Leachman (one of my favorite actresses) see's Bart's dreams, and she encourages him to pursue them but Bart's father belittles him, gives him deafening discouragement all the time. Which leaves Bart driven to please everyone. As the years go on Bart comes to realize the bad relationship with his father is effecting his relationship with God and others. Bart is haunted by the hurt and the rejection from his past with his father. So Bart is finally forced to face his father and all the painful memories Bart is haunted by.
The movie has wonderful actors and actresses in it and it is a very well-made movie. I got sucked into the story line from the first minute. I got angry, I cried and I laughed. I also learned what true unconditional love and forgiveness is. I Can Only Imagine is about forgiveness, healing and redemption between Bart and his father. It can be very difficult to forgive a person or people who inflict pain on you with emotional, mental or physical abuse, whether it is intentional or unintentional. The person may not know how deeply they have hurt you. The movie shows how important it is to forgive others. This movie teaches us It is never too late for a person to change. This movie stayed focused and centered around Jesus. It teaches us about His unconditional love and His forgiveness towards us no matter what we have done. It also teaches us how we are supposed to be with others in being loving, kind and have forgiveness towards each other.
This movie is family friendly and is suitable for young teenagers up to adults. There is no foul language, no inappropriate sexual content and no drug use but there is a scene where the two main characters engage in mild violence in this movie.
